Johan Rossouw, Group Economist of the Vunani Group, has been a professional Economist since 1988. He has been involved in financial markets since 1996 and has been a rated analyst in both Economic Trends and Fixed Interest Research for many years – he was rated third in the category for Domestic Economic Trends in the 2010 ranking of analysts.

Johan has extensive experience, primarily as a Sell-Side Analyst, but has also managed domestic bond, money market, as well as international portfolios as an employee of a domestic asset management company. He held the position of Chief Economist and Strategist at various stockbroker companies such as ABN Amro Securities (Pty) Ltd.

He also assumed various managerial positions and is currently the Managing Director of Vunani Securities (Pty) Ltd.

Alec Abraham is currently an Equity Analyst at Vunani Securities, covering the Healthcare sector.

He has been doing research across a broad range of industries since 1994, initially at the International Debt Rating Agency, Fitch Ratings and then as an Equity Analyst at top French bank SG, where he was recognised in a number of financial surveys, including the Financial Mail Analyst’s Review and the Professional Management Review, primarily for his work in the Healthcare sector.

Alec also spent almost 5 years at PriceWaterhouseCoopers Corporate Finance where his research skills were applied to supporting the Mergers & Acquisitions division.

Anthony started his career as a qualified Electrical Engineer before gaining a Business & Finance HND from Cambridge. Entering the stock market initially in 1991 with Laing & Cruickshank Investment Management (Private clients), he joined Astaire & Partners in London in 1994 as an Equity Salesman, servicing a European institutional client base, trading in some 22 markets – the main one being South Africa.

Recruited from London by Standard Equities as an Analyst in 1996, Anthony moved to Johannesburg where he covered Small Caps and the Engineering & Construction sector. In the ensuing years he worked within Investment Management, at Gensec/Sanlam from 1997, before moving back into Equity Sales at Nedcor Securities in 2001.

In 2005 he was recruited by Barnard Jacobs Mellet as an Equity Salesman and re-established himself as a Small Cap Analyst.

Anthony joined Vunani Group in 2008, working as a Corporate Broker and more recently at Vunani Securities as a Small Cap Analyst. He has gained Financial Mail ratings in both Equity Sales and Small Cap research over the past ten years.

Prior to his career in the financial markets, Arnold was involved in corporate planning, economic and marketing research in a variety of public companies, and was the Deputy Director of the Clothing Federation of South Africa.

Since 1995, Arnold has worked as an Equity Analyst at Fergusson Bros, Investec Securities, Societe Generale and Kagiso Securities. His areas of specialisation have included Small Cap and Medium Cap Stocks (rated 4 in 2001) and Diversified Industrials (rated 7 in 2009). He is now covering Paper and Household goods. Arthi is a Senior Equity Analyst, covering stocks in the Travel and Leisure sector, listed on the JSE and will initiate coverage of the Gold sector from July 2011. She also oversees the training of up-and-coming analysts at Vunani Securities.

Arthi joined Kagiso Securities in 2006 as a Trainee Analyst and worked her way up to Senior Analyst after two and a half years. She was also promoted to Head of Training in March 2010.

Arthi is a Bachelor of Business Science (Economics) graduate from the University Of Natal, Durban (now the University of KwaZulu-Natal) and is currently pursuing her MBA qualification through the local arm of Henley Business School (University of Reading, UK).

She has worked previously at Standard Bank South Africa, in the Corporate and Investment Banking division as a Product Manager for the Liquidity and Cash Management suite of products.

Hurbey is currently a Platinum Analyst at Vunani Securities, prior to this he was with Kagiso Securities as a Mining Analyst, covering platinum. He decided to take a break from the corporate world at the end of 2002 in order to pursue his creative interests and establish a ceramic studio, which is currently still in operation.

His working career started at Union Corporation, followed by The Minerals Bureau General Mining, E W Balderson Inc., ABSA Securities and SG Securities. Hurbey was rated in 1999 and 2000 in the Gold sector, as well as being rated in 2002 in the Platinum sector.

Technology Analyst (Consultant)

Irnest is experienced in equity valuation, financial forecasting and business modelling. He is a CFA charterholder and was rated in the IT sector (Financial Mail Analyst Rankings Surveys) for 5 consecutive years from 2006 to 2010.

He has been analysing the Technology sector as a Sell-Side Analyst for 10 years. His first few years as an analyst were served at Societe Generale, researching the Telecoms sector. Prior to that, Irnest spent 6 years working in the IT sector, mainly for Internet Solutions, a Dimension Data subsidiary.

He also worked for Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) as a Strategy Consultant. Maureen is a Technical Analyst with Vunani Securities and qualified as a Stockbrocker in 2001, after having made a significant career change. She has been involved in the Financial Markets since 2001 and has been a Financial Mail Rated Analyst in the Technical Analysis category for the last 2 years.

Maureen has also worked as a Portfolio Manager in BEE stockbrokerages before joining Vunani Securities in October 2010.

Thandeka started her career in 2001 at Continental Securities in Zimbabwe as an Equity Sales Trader. In 2004 she joined Legae Securities as a Private Clients Trader. In 2005 Legae Securities seconded her to JP Morgan where she completed a 6-month research training programme. Thereafter, Thandeka joined the Legae Research team as a Small Caps Industrial Analyst.

In June 2007, she moved to Vunani Securities to research the Building and Construction sector. Thandeka has a B Com Honours degree in Information Systems from the University of Cape Town, which she obtained in 2000 and is currently studying for her CFA level 3.

Simon started in the industry in September 1989 as a Runner on the JSE floor. Soon thereafter he qualified to become a Floor Trader with JD Anderson, where he traded the Industrial Board until the demutualisation of the JSE.

Thereafter he became an Institutional Sales Trader with UBS Warburg. Simon joined African Harvest Securities in 2002 (presently Vunani Securities) and was promoted to head the Equity Desk in 2006.

Ian started his career as an Equity Trader in July 1988, with George Huysamer (taken over by ABN Amro), where he was later promoted to Head of Trading and then Head of Sales Trading.

He spent 2002 at ING Barings as Head of the Equity Desk, after which he joined Kagiso Securities in January 2004 as Head of Equities, where he also served as an Exco member.

He currently serves as Head of Sales Trading on the Equity Desk at Vunani Securities.

Malcolm is a chartered accountant and completed his articles at PWC and an Advanced Executive Programme (AEP) at Unisa. He worked in the industry at Distillers Corporation for 4 years and at Federale Volksbeleggings for 3 years as Management Accountant.

Malcolm joined Credit Guarantee Insurance Corporation and worked for 8 years as General Manager (Finance). He then joined UBS Warburg, qualified as a Stockbroker and worked for 9 years as Director Sales Trading.

Thereafter he joined PSG Online for 4 years as Director (Private Client Business) before joining Vunani Securities in 2004, where he heads up Derivatives and Private Client Trading.

Thabo graduated from Wits University with a Bachelor of Commerce degree, majoring in Economics, Property Finance and Risk & Insurance Management.

He started his career with Legae Securities in 1997 as a Trainee Equity Trader and progressed to Senior Trader. In 2002 he won the Top Stockbroking Dealer award from ABSIP.

He joined Metropolitan Asset Managers in 2004 as a Financial Markets Dealer, focusing on Equities and Derivatives trading. He was nominated for the Top Institutional Dealer Award by ABSIP in 2004.

In December 2006 he joined Vunani Securities as a Senior Equity and Derivatives Trader.

Goodwill joined Vunani Securities as an Equity Sales Trader in December 2010, following the acquisition of Kagiso Securities by Vunani Securities.

He graduated at Wits University and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Economics and Mathematics. In 2005 he joined Kagiso Securities as an Equity Trader and was later promoted to the role of Equities Sales Trader. He also obtained the RPE in Derivatives Trading and gained invaluable experience interacting with different buy-side clients.

He was invited to serve on the JSE’s Trading and Advisory Committee (TAC) and recently obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration (PDBA) from the University of Pretoria’s Gordon Institute of Business Sciences (GIBS).
